The total estimated investment is about $2.1 billion, covering data center infrastructure, equipment, electrical systems, water supply and drainage, and graphics processing units (GPUs). The entire capital will be disbursed according to a roadmap and completed by the end of Q1 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, stated that the city has established an AI Data Center Project Investment Working Group to assist investors in completing procedures, resolving obstacles, and ensuring the implementation schedule.<br \/>\nAccording to the plan, the first phase of the project will build an &#8220;AI factory&#8221; with a capacity of about 50 MW, equivalent to approximately 28,000 GPUs. The data center is oriented to provide computing power for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications, serving domestic and international customers while meeting Vietnam&#8217;s demand for sovereign AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The investors stated that the technology used in the project will meet high technical standards, be energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly. According to him, the rapid support from local authorities is a crucial factor helping the project progress smoothly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He believes that a successful AI center requires three key elements: a suitable location and infrastructure, reputable local partners, and advanced technology. The British investor representative assessed Ho Chi Minh City as a highly suitable location for developing AI factories, but emphasized the importance of ensuring infrastructure, especially the power supply. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City meets these criteria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Mr. Jones, the project involves major technology partners, including Nvidia, which provides GPUs\u2014the core components of AI computing systems. Thanks to this close partnership, AIC can directly import high-performance GPUs for the project. The joint venture aims to commence construction on April 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Mr. Tam, an AI data center can be seen as the &#8220;heart&#8221; of smart technology infrastructure, helping to process big data and serve urban challenges such as transportation, population management, and economic administration. He also proposed that the city consider piloting mechanisms related to AI data centers and data security to facilitate the development of this new industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the meeting, Ho Chi Minh City People&#8217;s Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc said this is the city&#8217;s first large-scale data project, holding significant importance in forming the digital infrastructure for a special municipality. Relevant agencies need to coordinate closely to ensure the project is implemented according to the agreed content, goes into operation soon, and contributes to the city&#8217;s digital economic development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ho Chi Minh City currently possesses a relatively synchronized digital infrastructure platform, with 5G networks covering 70% of its area, 12 operating data centers, and an AI-applied smart urban management system. For the 2026-2030 period, HCMC identifies digital infrastructure development as a core strategy, prioritizing hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure, aiming to join the top 50 leading smart cities in the world.
